Have you ever seen the Iron Chef – the cooking show in which chefs are given a secret ingredient and a short amount of time to cook something new and exciting with it? KU composers will attempt a similar feat this Friday, October 14th in the second KU Iron Composer Contest. Composers will have 24 hours to compose a short piece incorporating a secret ingredient, and the compositions will be played head-to-head in a single-elimination tournament. For the final round, the 2 remaining composers have 15 minutes to write a piece and battle for supremacy!

This year’s contest will be emceed by KU’s own improv group Stitch Tactics. You can come on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 PM in Swarthout Recital Hall. This week on School of Music Showcase, there will be an interview with organizer Forrest Pierce about the contest and recordings of KU composers’ works!
