If you only know Cale from the Velvet Underground, this is what you’re missing.
John Cale has had quite a unique career in the music world. From being a founding member of the Velvet Underground, to releasing genre bending albums from the 1970s until now, Cale’s musical evolution is an interesting one to track. His latest album finds him experimenting with electronic music for the first time and the end result is better than one would expect. For instance, songs like “Mothra” prove that autotuned vocals can be used as more than just a cheap effect by artists like T-Pain. In the song, Cale creates a creepy atmosphere, where each robotic vocal builds upon the last to create an unnerving final result. Not all of the tracks feature autotune. Songs like the opener, “I Wanna Talk 2 U” contain Cale’s natural voice sounding just as great as it ever has. Fan of experimental music will want to check out this album.
