The Jayhawks have a new, challenging opponent.
By Nathan Fordyce
The non-conference schedule for the Kansas Jayhawks consistency has two or three top programs and starting in 2013, the Georgetown Hoyas will be scheduled for four consecutive years.
The four year series will start at Allen Fieldhouse on Dec. 21, 2013 with the two teams alternating each year on who’s home.
The two historic programs surprisingly have only met twice in program history with each team taking one. The last time the two schools met was last season in the Maui Invitational.
During that game, the Jayhawks defeated the Hoyas 67-63 with Thomas Robinson leading the charge with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
In the other match-up, it has to go back to 1987. In that year, the two teams met in the semifinal of the NCAA Southeast Regional.
The Hoyas won that game 70-57 despite Danny Manning dropping 23 points for the Jayhawks.
It should prove to be a great series that could help both teams in the eyes of the polls.
The 2013 non-conference schedule is looking good for the Jayhawks as they will have the last meeting of the Champions Classic against Duke in Chicago
