Anti-folk duo goes dance pop to fantastic results
Tegan and Sara are known for wearing their heart on their sleeves with their confessional style of anti-folk. However, on their latest album Heartthrob, they decided to venture into dance pop territory and it actually works. Tracks like the single “Closer” and “Shock to Your System” might not pack the same type of energetic punch that past tracks like “the Con” might have, they do make up for that in danceable beats that will get you on your feet and moving. Fans might be disappointed at the lack of a distinctive guitar sound, but they should rest assured that Tegan and Sara’s unique brand of emotional lyrics and pop sensibility is still left entact.
