Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna’s sophomore album Nocturnal is infectious. Nocturnal crosses lines with catchy pop, R&B, and a variety of interesting instrumentals. Nocturnal is break-up album on the surface, but the lush, smooth sounds Yuna creates, bringing in multicultural backgrounds, makes it so much more than that. Listening to this album makes you feel completely enveloped. Track 3, Rescue, borders on too much sticky sweet, but the rest of the album pulls you in with rhythms full of color and power. Track 5, Lovely Intermission, is my personal favorite, bringing the album to a peak with soft tones. Track 9, Colors, also shines above the rest with a distinctive tone, begging to be played on repeat. I’d highly recommend this album.
