Missy Elliot

Back and Ready for Action…Maybe?

Our ears have been through a sonic Dust Bowl of sorts, going eight years without a new Missy Elliot album. For about two years we have heard whispers of a new album, Missy even releasing two singles with the aid of Timbaland: “9th Inning” and “Triple Threat”, but just as we thought we have reached the cultural oasis refreshing our dry palettes, the drought continued.

In the past we have known Missy’s health has kept her from producing work and performing, but recently we have seen seemingly good health from the artist. Michael Yo via his Yahoo Web Show “The Yo Show” recently chatted with Missy on her hiatus. Missy addressed the fact that she is merely taking her time to produce a quality record, nodding at the current state of some artists throwing out album on top of album, stating “I gotta feel like what I’m giving the fans is 100 percent and that it’s game-changing. I don’t just throw out microwave records.” Also saying she knows how high the expectations are, and that she wants to meet them completely.

If you ask me, the three year wait for a new album after being teased with singles has probably demoted expectations to apathy, but I can only hope we can be pleasantly surprised. Who knows, maybe we will get an album tomorrow and Missy will be the Beyonce of 2014.
