Welcome to Night Vale in Lawrence!
Abe & Jake’s landing presents the cult hit podcast Sunday, March 16 at 7:00pm.
Hey arts and culture fans! The nationally-celebrated podcast “Welcome to Night Vale” is coming to town tomorrow, and doing a live show at Abe & Jake’s Landing. If you’re new to Night Vale, it’s presented in the form of community radio updates for a small desert town where all conspiracy theories are real. Massive glowing clouds race in from the horizon, hooded figures lurk about, and the Sheriff’s Secret Police regularly issue warning to not enter, look at, or think too hard about the local dog park.
The creators are in the midst of a tour of Sold Out venues in cities such as Dallas, Boston, and Washington DC so we’re pretty excited to have them include Lawrence on their list. And here’s the exciting part – you can still get tickets. The event includes the live staging of a brand new, unaired episode “The Librarian” and a live musical guest. Though we haven’t seen anything indicating who that is, yet.
We here at the Arts & Culture desk are just excited to see this opportunity being extended to an offbeat, rather nontraditional program. We love Night Vale’s straight-faced presentation of surreal phenomena, and the utter ridiculousness of the way there’s nothing ridiculous about it. It’s definitely not the kind of thing you’d immediately think of for a live tour, so we’re stoked to support the event. Big ups to Abe & Jakes for trying something different! We’d love to see more of this in our beloved nonconformist #LFK – and we hope you can make it. You can bet you’ll see us there if you do.
