Despite Another Loss, Kansas Defense Making Strides
By Andrew Curtis Coming off a devastating loss at home in week 2 to Rice, nobody knew what to expect from Kansas going into a matchup with 16th ranked TCU, and certainly didn’t anticipate a close game going into the 4th quarter. The Jayhawk defense came out fast and furious, swarming to the football, getting stops when they needed to and displaying a bend-but-don’t-break mentality. KU forced a turnover on the first two possessions, one on TCU’s bad snap to quarterback Casey Pachall, which rolled practically halfway across the field and was recovered by Josh Williams, and the other on a forced fumble by Bradley McDougald, who had 12 tackles, a sack and two forced…
Sims returns for road trip to NIU
By Trevor Graff The Jayhawks left Memorial Stadium, after losing 20-7 to TCU, disappointed with another loss, but encouraged by the effort shown on the field. The Jayhawks fought for a solid 60 minutes in last Saturday’s game. Sixty minutes that left the game in doubt well into the fourth quarter. This week the task of improving in game situations becomes a bit tougher as Kansas looks to break a 16-game road-losing streak in DeKalb, Ill. against the Northern Illinois Huskies. “They’ll hear about it several times this week,” coach Charlie Weis said. “Breaking the streak will be one of my main messages. They’ve been winning at home. We’ve been losing on the road. We’re…
Gridiron Gesticulations Week 3: USC Me Now?
by john griffin Hey, you know what? It’s not all doom-and-gloom for KU football. The Jayhawk defense played admirably in a 20-6 loss to TCU, forcing 4 turnovers. Though the defense gave up a lot of yardage, they made big plays when it counted. Anyway, onto the rest of the world. More than Luck-y Everyone hates Lane Kiffin, right? Let us taste his salty tears after #2 USC totally blew it against #21 Stanford, losing for the 4th year in a row (I know, right?) 21-14. Matt Barkley may have lost himself the Heisman Saturday night, going a woeful 20-41 with 2 terrible interceptions and no touchdowns. Stanford surprisingly snapped out of their streak of…
Bear Cave: Uphill Battle Ahead for Weis and Company
By Andrew Curtis It’s time to take a step back and assess the damage. Just two weeks ago, the Kansas football team was in good spirits and more confident than it had been heading into the season in the past 3 years. Kansas opened the season with a win that wasn’t anything to write home about despite wins coming few and far between recently. Now, after blowing an 11-point 2nd half lead in a crippling loss to an underwhelming Rice Owls squad, things are looking pretty bleak at the Anderson Family Football Complex. The fact of the matter is, Charlie Weis might have bit off more than he can chew, at least for the time…

Jayhawks focusing on accountability after Rice let down
By Trevor Graff Kansas fans left Memorial Stadium after Saturday’s matchup with the Rice Owls feeling a lot like the Jayhawk fans of old. The fans that spent the majority of their time breaking down losses and saying wait until next year. Chris Boswell, the Owls’ Lou Groza Award watch list kicker, blasted a 45-yard field goal through the uprights with two seconds remaining to seal the Jayhawk loss 25-24. The Jayhawks led all but the first ten minutes of the game before losing on Boswell’s last second field goal. “Clearly, my biggest disappointment is that we didn’t finish,” said head coach Charlie Weis. “The whole motto for this week was about finishing games, because…
Gridiron Gesticulations Week 2: LOLs in the Polls
Well, KU lost. Here are my thoughts. But we can take solace in the fact that other teams lost in a myriad of more embarrassing ways. Falling from Grace Where to begin? How about Arkansas getting taken out of the Top 25 entirely by Louisiana Monroe? Razorback fans are going to make the excuse that QB Tyler Wilson left the game at halftime due to injury, but come on, shouldn’t the #8 team be able to beat the Warhawks with their 3rd string in the game? The answer is yes, Arkansas. The answer is yes. Also your defense stinks and WOO PIG SOOIE is dumb. One can only hope this begins your long slide back into…
