ST. LOUIS — A valiant performance by senior Tarik Black was not enough for the 2nd seeded Kansas Jayhawks to avoid the upset by the 10th seeded Stanford Cardinal. Black finished off his Kansas basketball career with an 18 point, six rebound effort. Fouling out in the waning minutes of the game, this came as a huge loss to a young Jayhawk squad. Many of Black’s fouls came by way of the Cardinal players blowing by perimeter Kansas defenders and leaving him alone in the paint as a last line of defense. ST. LOUIS — Despite a slow start, the Kansas Jayhawks were able to notch an 80-69 win over a gritty 15th seeded Eastern Kentucky Colonels. Jamari Traylor came up huge for the Jayhawks off the bench, having career highs in both scoring and rebounding with 17 points and 14 boards. Conner Frankamp played 25 minutes for the Jayhawks, scoring a career high 10 points and dishing out four assists. “We actually played better with Conner in the game,” Kansas coach Bill Self said after the game. “But there was no set game plan. It may have been sunny outside of the Sprint Center, but it was raining threes for Iowa State as the Cyclones defeated the Kansas Jayhawks 94-83 to advance to the Big 12 Championship final on Saturday. The Cyclones (25-7, 11-7) came out firing on all cylinders to start the game, as they hit 66.7 percent (8-12) of their shots from beyond the arc in the first half. Freshman sensation Andrew Wiggins continued his dominance in the Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship quarterfinal game, putting up 30 points against rival Oklahoma State in a hard-fought overtime victory. KU beat OSU 77-70 on Thursday at the Sprint Center. The Jayhawks led for the duration of the game, however costly turnovers allowed the Cowboys to push the match to overtime. The Jayhawks outscored the Cowboys 10-3 in overtime and emerged victorious. Forwards Jamari Traylor and Tarik Black stepped up in the absence of Joel Embiid.
