The evening nyckelharpa concert starts at 6:45 featuring Becky Weis. Becky is an ethnomusicologist and performer of Scandinavian fiddle traditions since 1988. The nyckelharpa or “Swedish keyed fiddle” has been evolving in Sweden for about 600 years. It has 12 sympathetic strings and four cello gauge bowed strings. The sympathetic strings combined with the heavy bowed strings create a very rich baroque sound.
This concert is in conjunction with the annual Nordic Heritage Festival. The festival runs from noon and concludes with the evening concert. There are many activities including Viking edu-tainment, Viking living history and a reproduction Viking ship, arts, crafts, culinary, textile arts, children’s activities.
