Lawrence Meals on Wheels is hosting their annual “Signature Settings” Charity Auction on October 17th, 6-9pm, at Maceli’s.


Tickets are $50 and include an appetizer buffet, wine & beer, silent and live auctions. We have something for everyone including gift baskets, gift certificates, purses, jewelry an outdoor playhouse and Kansas City and Vegas getaways. All proceeds raised will help feed our Lawrence neighbors in need.

Do you want to sprint, walk or even dance down Mass Street? Then come participate in a one-mile, competitive or noncompetitive race for the whole family in the beautiful downtown Lawrence. The Mass Street Mile is proud to partner with the local organization, Van Go, Inc. as the beneficiary of this community run to raise money to continue to help children, teens and adults in the area! 10:00 am – Race-day Registration and Packet Pick-up Open (or register in advance at 12:30 pm – Men’s Competitive Mile 12:35 pm – Women’s Competitive Mile 12:40 pm – Recreational Mile The start & finish are on the 900 block of Massachusetts Street, near Weavers Department Store. Look for the black tents and check in flags. There will also be a street festival on 9th Street, featuring food, ice cream, and games for kids. The 12:30 pm start time is tentative. The event will not start any earlier than 12:30 pm but may start later, depending on the conclusion of the Kids Bike Race. Race Course The Competitive Mile features a fast, flat course down Massachusetts Street, New Hampshire Street, Vermont Street and back to the start on the 900 block of Massachusetts Street. Support your community and our sister community in Matazano, Guatemala by flexing your trivia muscle and bringing as many friends with you as possible.

Flapjacks for Philanthropy–which will feature a deluxe, all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast served by Chris Cakes– is hosted by the sophomore Self Engineering Leadership Fellows, the Class of 2014. Tickets sell for $5 in advance, $7 at the door, and in past years, the fundraiser has served breakfast to over 600 supporters. For 2012, the Fellows have chosen to use the event to benefit GaDuGi SafeCenter, a rehabilitation center for victims of sexual violence. The event will take place on March 31, from 8am-11am in Eaton Atrium, and is open to all of the community, whether you are affiliated with the University of Kansas or not. The goal is to raise $3,500 for GaDuGi.
