The event will culminate in live entertainment provided by Ozomatli and host, Making Movies. In addition, the Carnaval is curating art for a galeria and will also feature face painting, custom screen printing, South American food, and folkloric music and dance performances on multiple stages. The lineup of special guests for this year’s Carnaval includes Parranderos, Trio Aztlan, Abel Ullon, Ayllu, and students of The M.U.S.I.C.A. Project—Making Movies’ own youth music program.
A portion of special merchandise sold at the event will benefit the Guadalupe Centers, a local non-profit organization serving the needs of the Latino community. Dollars raised will go toward supporting The M.U.S.I.C.A. Project at the Guadalupe Centers.
Please join Making Movies and take part in the first ever Making Movies Carnaval this October. Children ages 12 and under get in for half-price until 7pm.

Led by Catalyst Quartet, the 18-member Sphinx Virtuosi string orchestra is comprised of alumni from Sphinx Competition. 

The ensemble works to advance diversity in classical music while engaging young and new audiences through performances of varied repertoire. Its 2014 program, AMERICANA, may include works by distinguished American composers Aaron Copland, Jessie Montgomery, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Duke Ellington, John Corigliano and
Philip Glass.

The University of Kansas Symphony Orchestra (KUSO) will perform with Joshua Roman, an outstanding young musician who spent two seasons as principal cellist of the Seattle Symphony.  Roman has appeared as a soloist with some of the world’s top symphonies. For this concert, he will perform Edward Elgar’s iconic cello concerto.

KUSO is the premier orchestral organization in the KU School of Music, led by the internationally-known Director of Orchestral Activities David Neely. He is recognized for his polished, expressive performances leading the KUSO in repertoire ranging from the Baroque period to 21st-century masterworks. Symphony members are KU students from the School of Music and other degree programs.

In 2013, pianist Yun-Chin Zhou was awarded seven concert prizes and was named a winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. He also won First Prize in the Gina Bachauer Piano Competition. Before coming to the U.S. to study, he appeared with the China National Symphony Orchestra and won top prizes in the 2007 China International and the 2006 Gulangyu Piano Competitions in Xiamen and appeared as soloist with the China National Symphony Orchestra.
