Following in the tradition of the Quebec Circus, Jean Saucier,  equilibrist/juggler/trick cyclist/acrobat/magician, performs while Patrick Côté,  clown/ roller skater/ drummer, innocently tries his best to be the (imperfect) assistant.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels is hosting their annual “Signature Settings” Charity Auction on October 17th, 6-9pm, at Maceli’s.

 

Tickets are $50 and include an appetizer buffet, wine & beer, silent and live auctions. We have something for everyone including gift baskets, gift certificates, purses, jewelry an outdoor playhouse and Kansas City and Vegas getaways. All proceeds raised will help feed our Lawrence neighbors in need.

Basetrack draws soldiers’ stories to examine the experience of those who served in Afghanistan during America’s longest war. This multimedia theatrical production uses live music, journalism and technology to spark a conversation about the legacy of war. It is adapted from the popular Facebook page and website of photographs and videos taken by journalist Teru Kuwayama.

The event will culminate in live entertainment provided by Ozomatli and host, Making Movies. In addition, the Carnaval is curating art for a galeria and will also feature face painting, custom screen printing, South American food, and folkloric music and dance performances on multiple stages. The lineup of special guests for this year’s Carnaval includes Parranderos, Trio Aztlan, Abel Ullon, Ayllu, and students of The M.U.S.I.C.A. Project—Making Movies’ own youth music program.
A portion of special merchandise sold at the event will benefit the Guadalupe Centers, a local non-profit organization serving the needs of the Latino community. Dollars raised will go toward supporting The M.U.S.I.C.A. Project at the Guadalupe Centers.

Led by Catalyst Quartet, the 18-member Sphinx Virtuosi string orchestra is comprised of alumni from Sphinx Competition. 

The ensemble works to advance diversity in classical music while engaging young and new audiences through performances of varied repertoire. Its 2014 program, AMERICANA, may include works by distinguished American composers Aaron Copland, Jessie Montgomery, Coleridge-Taylor Perkinson, Duke Ellington, John Corigliano and
Philip Glass.
