Well, it’s the dawn of a new school year here at KU, and while we’re excited what new music fall of 2018 will bring us here at KJHK, we’ve had the wheels spinning nonstop this summer with lots of fresh new music from all across the board. We’ve had plenty of albums in and out of our top 30 most played, but for this first charts & adds of the semester we’ll start off with the top 5 albums from the last week of summer:
Top 5 Charts:
1.) Tanukichan – Sundays
Topping our charts for the 2nd week in a row we have the debut album from Company Record’s Tanukichan. Sundays is a relaxing and reflective blend of shoe-gaze and dream pop that is perfect for any summer setting.
2.) Pllush – Stranger to the Pain
Stranger to the Pain is the fantastic debut from San Francisco band Pllush on Father/Daughter Records, which was released in June & has been heavy on our airwaves ever since. It’s powerful, moving indie rock with lyrics that are sure to stir up some emotions.
3.) Ovlov – TRU
Connecticut outfit Ovlov returned with their first album in almost 5 years with Tru. “Tru is boundless beauty, gentle rock with an edge. The misty riffs mixed with clever lyrics draw you in in a way that live music often does. The noise is still there, just presented in a more structured way.”
4.) The Internet – Hive Mind
The Internet’s 4th studio album is definitely their best work and one of the highlights from this year “Hive Mind presents The Internet fans know and love, but the growth is apparent. This record has no guest appearances and no outside production allowing the vocals to shine. The album floats by on waves of soul-infused punk”
5.) Employer – The Fax of Life
This summer has brought a number of notable emo releases out of Lawrence and Kansas City, but at the number 5 spot we have Employer with their 7 song project The Fax of Life. There are plenty of moments throughout powerful enough to get you to stop what you’re doing and just listen, and they are amplified by lyrics that stick with a quality similar to that of Pedro the Lion or early Death Cab for Cutie.
