2023 Battle of the Beats Submission Form

This year, KJHK has cooked up Battle of the Beats, an amateur DJ and electronic music production competition. THE WINNING ACT RECEIVES $1,000, SECOND PLACE WINS $750, AND THIRD PLACE WINS $500. The stakes are high, so submit your mix today and read how this all works below.

  • You Must Submit Your Entry by 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 9th, 2023.

  • The Process:

    1. All eligible artists must submit their music via this online form by April 9th, 2023 at 11:59pm.
    2. KJHK's staff will listen and review all submissions, and pick six finalists.
    3.  The six finalists will perform at Battle of the Beats on Thursday, May 4th, 2023 at The Replay Lounge in Lawrence, KS.
    4. Prizes for winner and runners -up awarded at Battle of the Beats]:
    • 1st PLACE: $1,000.00
    • 2nd PLACE: $750.00
    • 3rd PLACE: $500.00
    *Prizes will be distributed within two weeks of Battle of the Beats and all appropriate tax information must be supplied by winners to KJHK.

  • Who is Eligible to Enter:

    • Entrants from anywhere in Kansas, as well as bands or artists from Kansas City, MO and its surrounding metro area.
    • All styles of music are welcome.
    • Entrant must be considered "amateur" or unsigned. Those who are signed to a label will not be considered.
    • There must be an element of a live performance in the entrant's set. The entrant must not use an aux cord.
    • Entrants must be willing to be interviewed by KJHK before the competition.
    • Entrants must be able to perform in Lawrence, Kansas on Thursday, May 4th, 2023 at any time after 6pm.

  • Accepted file types: mp3, Max. file size: 8 MB.
    Mixes must be original and unique work, and will be used to determine finalists. Mixes must NOT be any longer than 30 minutes. All uploaded files must be mp3 format, maximum individual file size 8MB, please.
  • If your file is unable to upload your mix, please include a private SoundCloud mix.
    By checking this box, you, the artist and/or band agree to participate in the 2023 Battle of the Beats and its related selection process. This is a tough competition, and you certify that your heart will not be broken if not selected, and you trust KJHK to conduct a fair selection process, because that's all we ever care about with this thing. You also permit KJHK to help you out by allowing KJHK to use your material to promote both Battle of the Beats and of course your musical art as well. If available, you certify to provide KJHK with a logo and any other promo material you've got. By checking this box, you're telling us that this sounds just dandy.
