When Lucy Goodman’s little brother needed a new band member, she stepped to the plate, and thus, the Arsonists were born. The older sister advice we all look for and love comes through loud PUNK ROCK and heavy metal. It’s a family affair.
Lucy tells me that “Our family slightly does revolve around this band, it’s like our own little mutual project.”
Although Goodman siblings find their way to touch the band in many ways (Lucy plays bass and drums, Solomon is the lead singer), it’s not just them that contribute to the boogie. Besides Lucy, who is a pre-med biochemistry student here at KU, her brother and the other band members (Izzy Luce, bass; Karson Wilmes, lead guitar; Mike Werner, rhythm guitar; Kaden Gibson, singer; Ava Kay, drums) are high schoolers shredding bass in their free time, between football games on Friday nights and winter formal. Heavy metal is always a priority. And homework… obviously.
Lucy may be a few towns over from her bandmates, but they still make time to book and play gigs. “This band is important to me because not only is it a creative outlet for me, but I’ve created strong, close bonds with each band member. We’re like our own little family!” No, literally…
The Arsonists don’t just represent sibling love and hardcore metal, they represent the ways music forms connections, no matter the distance or age gap. It’s all about being in communion with one another, forming one big, happy family.
Catch this rockin’, hootin’ and hollerin’ band live on April 20th for a scholarship hall event at the KU Event Center at 6pm.
