Lily Rasmussen

Name, grade, position at KJHK?

I'm Lily, a sophomore speech-language-hearing major, and I'm the DJ for the Across the
Pond program, a show that deals with international music of any genre.

Tell us about your show?

I really wanted to be able to do this specific show, as I'm super interested in learning
more about the musical histories of other countries, and I've been trying to broaden my music taste beyond the US and Europe for a few years now. I'm trying to be pretty diverse when I DJ and try to have each song I play per show be from a different country.
Some of my favorite countries and genres to pull from are 70s rock and soul
from Cambodia, 80s electronic from Japan, 60s rock from Iran, and 70s-80s Arabic pop
(mostly based out of Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, etc).

What’s your favorite part about hosting it?

My favorite part about hosting this program is that I have an excuse to spend my time
learning about more and more artists that I previously had no idea about but come to
love! I also hope that in playing these songs I can maybe influence someone listening to
broaden their horizons when it comes to music.

Random question: If you could be any brand of cereal, which would you be?

If I could be a brand of cereal, I'd be something no one likes like Grape Nuts or
something so no one would eat me. I don't want to be eaten??
