KJHK runs on the dedication and creativity of its more than 200 KU student volunteers. From hosting on-air shows to creating podcasts, recording live bands, reviewing new music, to covering KU sports, KJHK student staff members have access to a multitude of opportunities and experiences during their time with the station. If you\u2019re a current KU student interested in getting involved with KJHK, read on to learn how to join the station as a program host or staff volunteer.<\/span><\/p>\r\n

Join a KJHK Volunteer Staff<\/b><\/h3>\r\n

We\u2019re always looking for great additions to our volunteer staffs at KJHK! There are opportunities in video and audio production, music writing, promotions, news and sports reporting, event planning, and online content creation at the station. Any KU student currently enrolled and in good standing at the University is eligible for a staff position at KJHK. You\u2019ll be asked for general availability information one or more times on any of the staff applications below, and time commitments vary by staff. All staff members will be required to attend monthly KJHK All-Staff Meetings, as well as weekly staff-specific meetings. Questions about what to apply for or how to apply? DJ Staff:<\/strong> The KJHK DJ staff is made up of over 70 DJs who keep KJHKs airwaves fresh 24\/7! In order to be a DJ at KJHK there is no prior experience or knowledge required! KJHK programming ranges from classics like Jazz In Morning every weekday from 6am-8am, to Breakfast For Beatovers every weekday from 9am-12pm. You can also host a general rotation slot to play whatever you would like or host a special program that is genre focused! Special programs include shows such as Malicious Intent that features a variety of heavy metal or Hickory Wind that features bluegrass, folk, western style music! Content Staff:<\/strong> Content Staff is a group of volunteers that is open to any student to create podcasts, videos, articles, and whatever content your heart desires through the station. Content staff meets every Friday at 3pm in the KJHK station, where we get together to work on ongoing projects as well as short stints of making fun stuff! Come check it out!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Music Staff:<\/strong>\u00a0Our Music Staff here at KJHK assists our music directors with incoming new album reviews and helps curate the music available to our DJs at the station. Simply put, this staff meets each week to talk about music, new and old, through any avenues that they may enjoy.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n

Sports Staff: <\/strong>At sports staff, we cover Kansas Athletics by broadcasting its men’s and women’s basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, and softball games along with providing a platform for photographers and writers to upload their work publicly. We give students a foot in the door of covering highly-profiled Division I sports teams to help them prepare for a career in sports media.<\/p>\r\n

S<\/strong>treet Team:<\/strong> Stree<\/span><\/span>t Team helps connect KJHK to both the on-campus and Lawrence community. Known as the station’s promotional force, they make content, hang up flyers downtown, and table at shows to spread the word about KJHK.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\r\n
