Readings and discussion with writers Kate Russell, Ben Cartwright, and Kate Greenstreet.<\/p>\n

In our debut episode of the Local Reading Series we brought on three writers to read and chat with us about some of their material. We also put out a call for suggestions for a new name (current ideas: Sunflower Reading Series, Lawrence Literary, Read Staters). Each guest has a reading in Lawrence coming up, if you like what you hear!<\/p>\n

<\/strong>Kate Russell<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sara Leavens spoke with fiction writer Kate Russell, a new arrival at KU who is pursuing a PhD in creative writing. There hasn’t been a date set, but look for Kate to be featured in the MFA Reading Series which sponsors readings by KU graduate students in creative writing every month.<\/p>\n

Ben Cartwright<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phil Garland spoke with poet\/hybrid forms writer Ben Cartwright, who received his PhD in English at KU this past May. This Thursday, September 5, Ben will be reading from his work “Tea & Gin” – dealing with the foreign concessions era in Tienjin, China – alongside visiting writer Jonathan Stalling. Kate Greenstreet<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong>Scott Ross spoke with poet Kate Greenstreet. She will be visiting KU as part of a tour for her newest book,\u00a0Young Tambling<\/em>, described by\u00a0Kenyon Review<\/em> as “a profoundly affecting assemblage of poetry, prose, and visual art”.
