{"id":27198,"date":"2013-11-14T12:00:36","date_gmt":"2013-11-14T18:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/?p=27198"},"modified":"2013-11-13T10:34:19","modified_gmt":"2013-11-13T16:34:19","slug":"the-rinse-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/2013\/11\/14\/the-rinse-out\/","title":{"rendered":"The Rinse Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\"><em>Getting grimey with MVE<\/em><!--more--><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Looking for the latest in electronic releases? \u00a0Here are MVE\u2019s selections for November.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>B\u00f8ne Squad &#8211; B\u00f8ne Squad (Total Fantasy)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">With the first release on Deadboy\u2019s new label Total Fantasy, the enigmatic B\u00f8ne Squad hit us with some forward thinking grime. \u00a0You won\u2019t hear any of the rap snares and hi-hats that have come to influence recent grime. \u00a0Instead, this release takes a darker approach more attuned to the genre\u2019s garage genesis. \u00a0It is not hard to imagine yourself in the polar regions of a Nordic country during the winter while listening to tracks with such names as Vvinter, Valkyrie, and Sk\u00e5l &amp; B\u00f8nes. \u00a0That does not mean it eschews the trappings of classic grime, as it is not hard to pick out the Eskibeat influence of Wiley in Sk\u00e5l &amp; B\u00f8nes, Danny Weed\u2019s Roll Deep riddims in Vvinter, or Rapid\u2019s Ruff Sqwad synths in Valkyrie (along with some cheeky jungle drums). \u00a0If you\u2019re looking for something heavier, this release is for you.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=DBPl2b5mm48\">B\u00f8ne Squad &#8211; Vvinter<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Murlo \u2013 Adder EP (Unknown To The Unknown)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Along the same lines, Murlo takes grime into the rainforest with this release. \u00a0This is a decidedly more upbeat, heater of an EP than B\u00f8ne Squad, but it still brings the sub-bass when necessary. \u00a0The syncopated riddims of UK Funky are also clearly present throughout the EP. \u00a0Adder gives us the same Eskibeat sound that Sk\u00e5l &amp; B\u00f8nes did, but in a much different context. \u00a0Irises hits with a pan-flute-esque synth that meanders its way throughout, like a bird zipping through a dense jungle. \u00a0Murlo is clearly indebted to Formula Records founder and UK Funky don Champion and this tuff, Funky-influenced EP is worth checking out.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=hxhM4uHYwXw\">Murlo &#8211; Adder<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>New York Transit Authority \u2013 Swarm (Lobster Boy Records)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Coming off of 2011\u2019s dancefloor-killing-house-throwback Off The Traxx, New York Transit Authority (alter ego of dubstep producer Mensah [don\u2019t let anyone tell you electronic producers aren\u2019t talented]) has a new 12\u201d out that is a stomper. \u00a0The A-Side (Swarm) is a track you\u2019d expect to hear around 4 AM in a dark basement drenched in sweat with a driving bass that almost calls to mind techno (but it never reaches that point). \u00a0The flipside houses (ha!) a track called 95 which keeps the dark bassline driving, although infuses some bouncy synthlines at points, as well as a short vocal sample evoking an older time. \u00a0This release represents the darker side of house and is well-worth a listen.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uvsTW5Wbrjg\">New York Transit Authority &#8211; 95<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">As usual, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mixcloud.com\/mike-van-esler\/the-rinse-out-november-mix\/\">here\u2019s a short mix of new and old tracks for you to enjoy!<\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Written by Mike Van Esler.
