And a tour!

Real Estate is a New Jersey-based band that has been making catchy indie rock since they formed in 2008. Their last album, Days, was met with wide critical acclaim and continues to be a staple on college radio stations across the world. Their new album, Atlas, is packed full of chilled out pop tunes that sound so youthful and carefree that it’s hard not to smile and sing along.

Since Days, the indie pop genre has become a little crowded, but what continues to set Real Estate apart from their contemporaries is their impeccable sense of melody.”Talking Backwards”, the first single from the album, is so catchy that it’ll be stuck in your head for days and other stand-outs like “Had to Hear” and “Horizon” are radio and commercial bound. Each song is full of youthful curiosity but with a tinge of nostalgia like looking through instagram photos of the road trip you and your friends took last summer.

Unfortunately, There isn’t a lot of variety on Atlas; If you took the vocals off any given track, I doubt I’d be able to identify it. But as an album experience, it’s a refreshing and rewarding listen. I rarely hear an album that sounds so modern as Atlas and I’m looking forward to hearing what comes next from Real Estate.

Recomended if you like – Fleet Foxes, The Smith Westerns, Beach Fossils

Recommended Tracks – 1, 3, 9, 4, 8,

Label – Domino Records, Mexican Summer

Released – March 4, 2014

Reviewed by Zach Clossin March 7, 2014

Don’t miss Real Estate at Liberty Hall on April 10th thanks to your friends at KJHK and SUA!

General public tickets will be available on Monday, March 10 online, at the Union Programs Box Office and at the Liberty Hall box office.

Online sales will be available through a link at www.suaevents.com and www.kjhk.org; online sales may be subject to fees.
