{"id":31656,"date":"2014-09-22T12:41:21","date_gmt":"2014-09-22T17:41:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/?p=31656"},"modified":"2014-09-22T12:41:21","modified_gmt":"2014-09-22T17:41:21","slug":"the-rentals-lost-in-alphaville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/2014\/09\/22\/the-rentals-lost-in-alphaville\/","title":{"rendered":"The Rentals: Lost In Alphaville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This album feels right at home amongst the synth-heavy dream pop.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The Rentals are the band of former Weezer bassist Matt Sharpe, a person many feel was a key component in the musical quality of Weezer\u2019s first two albums. <i>Lost in Alphaville<\/i> is their first full length album since 1999\u2019s <i>Seven More Minutes <\/i>and they haven\u2019t lost their step. When their first album, <i>Return of the Rentals<\/i>, was released in 1995, their synth heavy sound was almost anachronistic to the grunge heavy sound at the time but on <i>Lost in Alphaville<\/i> they finally seem to have found their place.<\/p>\n<p>Tracks like the opener, \u201cIt\u2019s Time to Come Home,\u201d feel right at home amongst the synth-heavy dream pop groups of today like M83. The highlight of the album has to be \u201cIrrational Things\u201d with its catchy chorus and beautiful dueling vocals between Sharpe, Jess Wolfe, and Holly Laessing. The song is the perfect representation of what the Rentals are all about sounding as if it was a lost B-Side from the Cars. Other highlights include \u201cThought of Sound\u201d which features beautiful synths and also \u201cDamaris\u201d with its lush arrangement.
