The entire album consists of 60s surfer deliciousness. But this record isn’t all sunshine; there is definitely some minor chords and gruff vocals.

“Had it All” evokes thoughts of The Animals or The Byrds. It has a vintage vibe with moody vocals and lovely harmonies. My favorite track is “Ferus Gallery.” It’s a quintessential surfer rock jam with no lyrics. It has several infectious guitar licks and a groovy bass line. It is literally perfect for a surf film with teenagers dancing on the beach. “Nothing to Hide” features a stellar bass line and dreamy vocals. “Buffalo Nickel” features lyrics synonyms with the 60s i.e. “only for you girl.” What it lacks in originality it makes up for in fun. “Follow You Down” combines Allah-Las signature psych sound with a few touches of garage rock. The melody is catchy and infectious; the guitar is clear and concise and the percussion soft and supportive.

Allah-Las haven’t redefined the psych-surf genre in anyway but are paying homage to it. It’s a very atmospheric album perfect for sunny days. Spend some time worshiping the sun and dancing on the metaphoric beach.

Recommended if you like: Temples, Black Angels, and The Animals

Recommended Tracks: “Had It All,” “Ferus Gallery,” “Follow You Down,” and “Nothing To Hide”

Reviewed by Emilie Stafford on September 19, 2014

[15,3230,181

post-31764","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured-on-kjhk","category-new-music-rotation","category-rock-rotation
["GET
