{"id":34835,"date":"2015-07-03T15:24:39","date_gmt":"2015-07-03T20:24:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/?p=34835"},"modified":"2015-07-03T15:24:39","modified_gmt":"2015-07-03T20:24:39","slug":"the-misadventures-of-eddie-turner-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/2015\/07\/03\/the-misadventures-of-eddie-turner-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Misadventures of Eddie Turner #2"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"p1\"><strong><span class=\"s1\">The Misadventures of Eddie Turner AKA DJ LiteBrite #2<br \/>\n<\/span><\/strong><strong><span class=\"s1\">-Finding Your Name<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> Week Two of this journal for class, and the second story from the radio station.\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">T<\/span>his is going to be about trying to find my DJ name.\u00a0It might sound like an easy task, but it\u2019s pretty much like giving yourself a nickname&#8230;and that can be a daunting task, because this will be who you are on the air and how everyone will know you.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> It was Wednesday, the day of my show. I showed up early to look through the stacks and to plan my show out. I was in the Music Library staring at the wall when James walked in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cHey, Eddie how\u2019s it going?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cOh, hey James, it\u2019s going good. I am just looking for CDs. What are you up to?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> James walked over and began to inspect my stack of CDs I\u2019d made, \u201cI\u2019m on air right now, and I saw you in here.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cSo you\u2019re the DJ before me? Cool,\u201d I said pulling a They Might Be Giants album off the shelf. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cYep, I didn\u2019t know you were after me.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I think Matt is after you as well, so it should be a pretty awesome couple shows of music.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cYeah, I\u2019m sure it will be, I think your song is ending there James.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cDamn it. See you in a minute.\u201d James ran into the studio. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> As I watched\u00a0through the window I saw James grab the mic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cHey everybody, James Walters here, and you\u2019re listening to KDSK. It\u2019s about three in the afternoon and we\u2019ve got some great music coming your way. Coming up at the top of the hour, my good friend Eddie will be taking over the mic,&#8221;\u00a0I heard through the speakers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> I finished grabbing CDs and walked into the Studio and sat down with my whole stack of about twenty albums. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cEddie, have you picked a DJ name yet? James asked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> I was sorting through the CDs, \u201cNo, do you think I need one?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cIt couldn\u2019t hurt. I\u2019ve been working on one for myself without much luck.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cWell do you have any ideas for one?\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cYou got to come up with one yourself, dude.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cFine, I\u2019ll think of something, how much time do I have before I go on?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> James looked at the clock on the sound board, \u201cAbout five minutes.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cAlright I\u2019ll put my first CD in and line up an ID.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> I slid They Might Be Giants into the top CD Player, and turned the knob to select the fourth track.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cWell Eddie, this is my last song so get ready.\u201d James said moving to another chair in the room.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cAren\u2019t you going to leave?\u201d I said as I found the ID I wanted on the computer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cI will. I just want to see how you start it off.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cFine, just stay quiet.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> I sat down and waited for the song to come to an end and played the ID, featuring some artist saying the call letters and city. I\u2019m not sure who they are but it works for me.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I pull the mic in front of me, \u201cHello everyone, DJ LiteBrite at your service, and we\u2019ve got three hours of great music coming your way.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>Call in any requests you may have and I\u2019ll do my best to get it on the air. We\u2019ll be starting with They Might Be Giants as well as some other good stuff.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> I pressed the CD 1 button on the sound board and the music started playing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cDJ LiteBrite is the best you could come up with? What\u2019s wrong with you?\u201d James was laughing so hard he almost fell out of his chair. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cWhat? It was the first thing I could think of, I\u2019ll change it later but for now I\u2019m DJ LiteBrite.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> After that James just sat there for a bit, watching me, and looking at his phone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The light on the wall indicating a phone call was coming started flashing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I picked up, \u201cKDSK.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cHey, great start to the show. I\u2019ve got a quick request.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cSure thing, what is it?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cCould you play something by Husker Du?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cYeah, I can get that on for you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cThanks anything would be great.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cNo problem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cHave a good day.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cYou too,\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I hung up the phone and looked at James. \u201cWho\u2019s Husker Du?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cReally, you don\u2019t know who they are?\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>James got up and walked to the wall and pulled off a CD. \u201cThis is Husker Du, did they ask for anything in particular?\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> \u201cNo, he just asked me to play something.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> He looked at the back of the case, \u201cHere play number two, Girl Who Lives On Heaven Hill.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>He handed me the album. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"> I played his suggestion and it was pretty good.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>I ended up asking my listeners if they had a better suggestion for my DJ name, and no one called in this time.
