After a fire in a neighboring bar & grill caused damages to the dining room of the Ladybird Diner on Massachusetts Street, the restaurant was forced to take a brief hiatus for repairs. Now, after a torturous five \"Ladybird<\/a>months for Lawrence locals, the diner is back and better than ever.<\/p>\n

With its brick walls and quirky decor, Ladybird gives off an ambiance that can only be described as “Elvis gone hipster.”\u00a0The diverse range of people offers a community-centered atmosphere and aids in the rapport between server and patron. In one booth\u00a0you will find hungry\u00a0college students chowing down on a stack of chocolate chip\u00a0pancakes\u00a0and\u00a0sitting in the\u00a0booth next to them\u00a0will be an elderly couple reminiscing on their glory days and wondering how they’ve never come across a marvel so awe-inspiring as the Douglas County Pie. Beside them will be a family sharing a basket of thick-cut French fries and slurping their hand-dipped milkshakes. The servers are all adorned with patterned aprons that are sure to take you straight back to the 1950s (or to one of the diner scenes in “Grease.”)<\/p>\n

\"Ladybird<\/a>It is not only the environment that makes this eatery a rare\u00a0place to dine; the menu is full of surprises as well. From their uniquely flavored, moist doughnuts (coconut, anyone?) to their cherry and chocolate phosphates, disappointment is something you won’t find here. Although they are known for their breakfast – and, of course, their pie – it doesn’t stop there. Their lunch and dinner menus bring classic diner food to a whole other\u00a0level with their State Fair Pork T Sandwich and “Breakfast for Dinner” options. (They are open until 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays for your late night breakfast cravings.)<\/p>\n
