On the evening of September 12, 2015, Floyd \u201cMoney\u201d Mayweather will look to make history and match the legendary boxing champion Rocky Marciano\u2019s all-time record of 49-0. In what is promised to\u00a0be his last fight, the 48-0, five-division world champion,\u00a0who is also rated as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, is set to face off against the 30-3 Andre Berto.<\/p>\n
Mayweather’s scheduled bout with Berto hasn\u2019t received nearly as much hype as\u00a0“the fight of the century”, which turned out to be a disappointment when Floyd took on\u00a0former eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao last\u00a0May. It would be bold\u00a0to\u00a0predict that Berto will pull off the upset in tonight\u2019s matchup, but the two-time welterweight champion has a\u00a0recipe for disaster and may\u00a0do something that 48 other fighters before him could not.\u00a0Meanwhile, at the MGM Grand, where Saturday night’s fight will take place, the sports book lists the undefeated champion as a staggering 30-1 favorite.<\/p>\n
If Berto wants any chance of downing\u00a0the undefeated champ his feet will have to show up to the fight. He\u00a0has the hand speed and power to damage Mayweather but if his footwork isn\u2019t up to par\u00a0it will be difficult for Berto to get inside on a\u00a0very defensive Mayweather. Floyd is one of\u00a0the most tactical fighters in the sport and is the best at beating his opponents to the punch. Berto must move forward and utilize feints to get\u00a0Mayweather to roll into his punches.<\/p>\n
Throughout\u00a0undefeated champion’s career, Mayweather has been\u00a0no stranger to controversy in or outside of the ring. Some of the controversy Mayweather has faced from critics is referee Kenny Bayless protecting him\u00a0from\u00a0any punishment. Bayless seems to preserve the champ’s stamina and offset the tempo of Mayweather’s opponents.<\/p>\n
Styles make fights. Berto is 3-3 in his last six bouts and\u00a0took\u00a0quite a beating from Victor Ortiz and Robert Guerrero, two fighters who were\u00a0convincingly defeated by Mayweather. It will be interesting to see if the price Berto has paid with\u00a0his “keep coming forward” style of fighting will make him vulnerable to a knockout Saturday night.<\/p>\n
Some say that\u00a0Berto\u2019s style could\u00a0be key\u00a0to do what no other fighter has and\u00a0defeat the 48-0 champ. Mayweather has stated that he wanted\u00a0win number 49\u00a0to also be\u00a0a memorable knockout number 27.
