This September marked the 44th<br \/>\nanniversary of the Walnut Valley Festival. The annual family-friendly bluegrass festival has<br \/>\nbeen known to draw crowds of up to 16,000 people from all over the country and is home to<br \/>\nnational and international bluegrass competitions.<\/p>\n<iframe src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/kjhk\/ad-astra-radio-walnut-valley-festival-2015&amp;color=993300&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=true&amp;show_comments=false&amp;show_user=false&amp;show_reposts=false\" width=\"100%\" height=\"166\" frameborder=\"no\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n<p>Notable international events during the week include the Fingerstyle Championship and<br \/>\nAutoharp Championship, while the many national events include contests such as the Mandolin,<br \/>\nMountain Dulcimer, Hammered Dulcimer and Bluegrass Banjo competitions and the Walnut<br \/>\nValley Old Time Fiddle Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Aside from the official contests, the festival also showcases countless touring bands and<br \/>\nsolo artists on four different stages. Some prominent recording artists who have graced Winfield<br \/>\nwith their performances include Doc &amp; Merle Watson, Lester Flatt, Mark O\u2019Connor, The Dixie<br \/>\nChicks, Alison Krauss and Mike Snider among hundreds more.<\/p>\n<p>Densely packed with cars, tents and RVs, finding a spot to park and pitch a tent becomes<br \/>\na tricky task for anyone arriving late in the week. A team of KJHK reporters took to the gravel<br \/>\nstreets of the fairgrounds after setting up camp for the night to see what they could find. After<br \/>\nenjoying a delightful performance by My Grass Is Blue on an unofficial, grassroots stage<br \/>\nbeloved by longtime Winfield-goers, Stage 5, they stumbled upon the band\u2019s campsite and<br \/>\nconducted an interview with Spoondawg.
