The word usually conjures up images of swashbuckling, rat-infested, hard-asses stealing treasure on the high seas. Rock. The term is usually associated with a different type of swashbuckler. The two exist in different realms, but when they are put together, the results are awesome. The Mad Maggies, helmed by the accordion-wielding Mad Mags, take an interesting idea and turn it into music that is “not your Disney pirate fare nor rehashed traditional music.” For the most part, the songs on Skake Those Bones are definitely not what you would call traditional, and this plays to the band’s strengths immensely. Their musicianship is outstanding. The only thing slightly off about this album is the ridiculous cosplay, but that’s all part of the fun.

Reviewed by: Paul Thomas on October 23, 2011

RIYL: The Jolly Rogers

Recommended Tracks: 2, 6, 7, 11 (Hidden Track)

FCC Warning: None

Label: Squeezin’ Diva Music

Release Date: August 1, 2011

[3230,181
397,396
post-3818","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-new-music-rotation","category-rock-rotation","tag-paul-thomas","tag-the-mad-maggies
["GET
