There are some influences from Merill Garbus, but Brenner’s solo work goes in a very different direction from spastic and sometimes screechy tUnE-yArDs tracks. Much more laid back yet still complex electronic songs, with a softer voice and slower pace.

Mister Divine is reminiscent of old Twin Sister, which is a very high compliment. The first track and title of the album starts off with a question: “Mister Divine, did you realize that you gotta pay the price?” “Starting Over” is fast paced and repetitive; an song for anyone who wants to get away and change themselves. “The Wall” is funkier with a Toro y Moi kind of feel. “Future” is another favorite, telling the listener to “Keep your eyes on the future, keep that 9-5.” All of these songs are so motivational! This album is going to help me get my life together 2k15.

Recommended If You Like: Twin Sister, Toro y Moi, YYU, tUnE-yArDs, Tanlines

Recommended Tracks: 7 (Future), 8 (Living in a Magazine), 2 (Starting Over), 1 (Mister Divine), 5 (The Wall), 9 (Shadow)

Do Not Play: None

Written by Allison McFall on 11/08/15

[182,4,3235,3230
2640,3928,3929,3927,3930
post-39383","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-hip-hopelectronic-rotation","category-music","category-music-reviews","category-new-music-rotation","tag-allison-mcfall","tag-mister-divine","tag-nate-brenner","tag-naytronix","tag-tune-yards
["GET
