1936<\/strong>, Charlie Daniels was born. The singer, songwriter, guitarist, and fiddler is best known for his song \u201cThe Devil Went Down to Georgia\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Daniels was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry in January of 2008.\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

1956<\/strong>, Elvis Presley appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show for the second time. Elvis performed four songs and was also presented with a gold record for \u201cLove Me Tender\u201d.<\/p>\n

Elvis\u2019 set list included \u201cDon\u2019t Be Cruel\u201d, \u201cLove Me Tender\u201d, \u201cLove Me\u201d, and \u201cHound Dog<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n

1958<\/strong>, Buddy Holly appeared on Dick Clark\u2019s American Bandstand. He performed (lip-synched) \u201cIt\u2019s So Easy\u201d and \u201cHeartbeat\u201d. This would be Holly\u2019s last major television appearance.<\/p>\n

1978<\/strong>, Nick Gilder hit No. 1 in the U.S. with the single \u201cHot Child In The City\u201d.<\/p>\n

1989<\/strong>, Janet Jackson\u2019s Rhythm Nation 1814<\/em> began at No. 1 in the U.S. The album is one of only three to yield seven top ten U.S. singles (Thriller <\/em>and Born In the U.S.A. <\/em>are the others).<\/p>\n

2001<\/strong>, Mary J. Blige reached No. 1 with her single \u201cFamily Affair\u201d. The song enjoyed a six week run in the top spot.<\/p>\n
