Miller has been a staple in the local Lawrence scene for a few years now and is making waves. Gumption is a beautiful indie pop-rock album, thick with sweet layers of looped guitar and harmonies. The thematic content is just as admirable, Miller faces head on the concept that as we grow and realize who we are, we may not like what we see. As she says in the title track of Gumption, “no one really ages quite how they envisioned.” We’re excited here at KJHK to see this release on Domino doing so well, the hometown love is strong with our number one this week.

After a few weeks of returning artists in the top 5, we’ve got a newcomer: Spanish low-fi group Hinds. With their first full length release Leave Me Alone on Mom and Pop, they’re already dancing around number one on the CMJ charts. This record isn’t devastating or impossible to leave behind but it has shining garage rock moments of energy. Following up Hinds at number three is Fuzz. Fuzz’s second release, II, sees them lay on the shag that they found in their debut self-titled, but with more moments of clarity.
