Number one this week is\u00a0Untitled Unmastered.,\u00a0<\/em>the\u00a0surprise release from the devastatingly talented hip-hop artist\u00a0Kendrick Lamar. This eight track album is a collection of unreleased material from the past two years, much of it created during the time that the masterful funk and soul imbued social commentary of\u00a0To Pimp A Butterfly\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0was being written and produced. In places,\u00a0Untitled Unmastered<\/em>\u00a0is akin\u00a0to\u00a0To Pimp A Butterfly<\/em>, but there are breakaway moments as well. In particular, “Untitled 7 2014-2016.” This latter half of this eight minute track is a loose, laughing Kendrick freestyling and chatting with\u00a0unknown voices over plucked acoustic guitar.<\/p>\n

Following up Kendrick are releases from Animal Collective, Wild Nothing, Adrian Younge, and Eerie Wanda.\u00a0Painting With<\/em> has seen weeks of top 5 action here at KJHK, while\u00a0Life Of Pause, Something About April II, <\/em>and Hum<\/em> are all\u00a0new to the\u00a0top 5!<\/p>\n
