Old movies inspires this week’s Vintage Vinyl setlist. <\/h2>\n

It might be no surprise to some that I am a total lover of movies. Anyone has heard my show has probably heard me read back my previous set lists and talk about songs in relation to which movies they were used in. It\u2019s kind of like a nervous tic. Seriously, it\u2019s nearly impossible for me to talk about, say, \u201cLollipop\u201d<\/a> by the Chordettes, without referencing that scene in \u201cStand By Me.\u201d Or any of the Forrest Gump soundtrack, which was mostly responsible for opening my eyes and ears to Clarence Henry, The Doors, Joan Baez. \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

My love for movies goes back so far that I can\u2019t exactly pinpoint when it began. I play movies while doing homework, cleaning, cooking, eating. I have the coolest job in Lawrence ever, working at Liberty Hall, so I watch movies while I work as well. I\u2019m sure you\u2019re all wondering why, in writing this blog for a MUSIC show, I\u2019m talking about movies with such fervor, and it does in fact have to do with my next show.<\/p>\n

This week\u2019s theme is \u201cNight at the Movies.\u201d See, ten years ago on November 9, 2001, the Kodak Theatre opened. The Kodak Theatre, as some of you may know, is where the Oscars are held now, so I decided this was a great opportunity to do a show I\u2019ve considered for a long time; movie music. All on vinyl, of course.<\/p>\n

As such, all of my playlist will include music that was used in some of my favorite movies. There will be music from \u201cThe Graduate,\u201d \u201cAmerican Graffiti,\u201d \u201cBreakfast at Tiffany\u2019s,\u201d and all sorts of others. And of course, I will let everyone know which movies each song comes from.<\/p>\n

Take this opportunity to hunker down on your couch with a blanket and warm socks, since it\u2019s going to be a cold night! I would make you all popcorn if I could. Join me on Wednesday night to reminisce about your favorite movies and relive all your favorite moments through music.<\/p>\n
