Kansas basketball has returned, and enthusiastic fans packed Allen Fieldhouse to watch the Jayhawks open the season with a 92-74 exhibition win over the Washburn Ichabods on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n

Senior guard Frank Mason finished with a near triple-double recording 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists. Mason was the team leader in all three categories.<\/p>\n

After a slow start, the Jayhawks rallied to close out the first half with 50 points. The \u2018Hawks went on to cruise in the second half. KU shot 45% from the 3-point line, and junior guard Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk led the Jayhawks from behind the arc, going 4-6 and finishing with 16 points.<\/p>\n

Freshman sensation Josh Jackson recorded 14 points while shooting 6-12 from the field. Jackson played just 20 minutes, and he was clearly amped up to play his first live game in a KU uniform, as he went scoreless in the first half.<\/p>\n

Both teams struggled overall at the charity stripe. KU finished 18-34 for 52%. Washburn somehow managed to shoot worse than that. The Ichabods finished 8-23 from the line for an incredible 34%.<\/p>\n

KU had 24 turnovers, and they were outrebounded 45-44, which was perhaps the result of the new small-ball lineup employed by the Jayhawks.<\/p>\n

Washburn shot just 38% from the field in the game, and guard Cameron Wiggins led the Ichabods with 14 points.<\/p>\n

KU has one remaining exhibition game on Sunday November 6th<\/sup>\u00a0versus Emporia State at 7 pm in Allen Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n

Washburn will play their second exhibition game on Friday November 4th<\/sup> at the Kansas State Wildcats.<\/p>\n
