Former frontman of the White Stripes Jack White is back with his third solo album <\/span>Boarding House Reach, <\/span><\/i>a great departure from most anything Jack has done.<\/span><\/p>\n Aside from leading one of music\u2019s most successful bands of the 2000\u2019s, Jack White has moved onto other music projects. Aside from playing in the Raconteurs and Dead Weather, Jack White started Third Man Records and co-founded Tidal. When he\u2019s not starting bands or businesses he attends to his solo career.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>Boarding House Reach <\/span><\/i>is White\u2019s third solo record, his first album <\/span>Blunderbuss <\/span><\/i>(2012) stepped away from the heavy distorted garage blues of the White Stripes and took a softer folk approach. <\/span>Lazaretto <\/span><\/i>(2014) was a great improvement, balancing between the hard rock blues mixed with the folk sound from his last album. <\/span>Boarding House Reach <\/span><\/i>takes the sounds from <\/span>Blunderbuss <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Lazaretto <\/span><\/i>and adds a layer of absolute chaos.<\/span><\/p>\n Experimental hardly scratches the surface of what Jack\u2019s trying to create in this new project. The album opens with \u201cConnected By Love,\u201d a bright and soulful ballad that serves as a strong opener. \u201cCorporation\u201d is where the album starts to get weird, a jam-heavy track melds with Jack dictating as if he\u2019s speaking to a military. When he\u2019s not singing he\u2019s screaming at high frequencies that sound identical to an 8-year-old on a roller coaster peeing his pants. \u201cOver and Over and Over\u201d is the album\u2019s safest track, anyone who\u2019s a fan of White\u2019s work will feel the most at home with this one.<\/span><\/p>\n Chaos and jamming seem to be the two biggest factors for this album. The remaining tracks are elongated jam sessions cramming organs with distorted guitars, bluzy 1920\u2019s piano, and hip-hop-esque drums. It\u2019s a lot to take in.<\/span><\/p>\n The experimentation will turn new listeners away from <\/span>Boarding House Reach<\/span><\/i>, but that doesn\u2019t make it a bad album. Despite the cramming of sounds,\u00a0there\u2019s still a distinctive flow to the album that only Jack White can create order through.
