{"id":69364,"date":"2018-10-25T10:22:53","date_gmt":"2018-10-25T15:22:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/?p=69364"},"modified":"2018-10-25T10:22:53","modified_gmt":"2018-10-25T15:22:53","slug":"tunes-night-w-blue-false-indigo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/2018\/10\/25\/tunes-night-w-blue-false-indigo\/","title":{"rendered":"Tunes @ Night w\/ Blue False Indigo!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This Monday\u2019s \u201cTunes at Night\u201d, a free event put on by the SUA, featured socializing, cupcakes, and the musical stylings of Blue False Indigo. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On their youtube page, the Kansas City based outfit describes themselves as a \u201cSpooky-Folk band\u201d Their lyrics are cryptic, often biblical.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey sent a storm; they thought that they\u2019d destroy us,\u201d sings lead vocal\/guitar Makayla Scott to a crowd of around thirty. Bandmates <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A.J Reynolds and Kara LePage sang backing vocals, and two persons referred to during the show as \u201cthe boys\u201d filled in on drums and second guitar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-69366\" src=\"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0820-683x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"166\" height=\"249\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0820-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0820-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0820-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/IMG_0820.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 166px) 100vw, 166px\" \/>The group is currently promoting their New LP \u201cMore Light\u201d, which features Scott\u2019s subtle melodies and oodles of Bluegrass type harmonies, the band\u2019s main draw. There\u2019s the \u201cspookier\u201d tracks like \u201cAfter The Flood,\u201d but the album is full of crowd pleasers too. In the post break-up song, \u201cWild Eyes,\u201d Scott begs the song\u2019s subject not to cry over the past\u2014a classic way to get the listener\u2019s tear factory up and running.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most attendees sat around the tables set up by the volunteers and watched as the group\u2019s haunting sound filled the pavilion. Between songs, the members spoke to the audience about their time in Lawrence. Scott admitted that earlier in the day she had gotten her first ever parking ticket, but promised that she wouldn\u2019t hold it against the city. Students laughed, sharing her frustration.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although turnout was modest, Blue False Indigo managed to make a small show feel special with church choir vocals and their lead singer\u2019s magnetic stage presence.
