1.) Nil\u00fcfer Yanya \u2013 Miss Universe<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In the past two years, British artist Nil\u00fcfer Yanya has released two different EP\u2019s, Plant Feed<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Small Crimes<\/em>. 2.) Mess \u2013 Learning How To Talk<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

[From previous week] This Kansas City quartet has its roots in a KU dorm room, where Allison Gliesman started recording music on an iPhone. The group takes real struggles and gives them a real spin that will not only make these topics digestible, but enjoyable. Prepare to get swallowed in the beauty that is pain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.) Patio \u2013 Essentials <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The current era of post-punk is constantly progressing the genre in both instrumentation and songwriting, although the Brooklyn trio Patio take a more minimalist and back to the basics approach on their debut LP Essentials<\/em>. The chemistry of the members can be heard on the tight arrangements of instrumentation as well as the powerful vocal deliveries. Essentials <\/em>is full of themes surrounding conflicting emotional forces, and the band does a fantastic job of translating these forces into a cohesive collection of songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.) Priests – <\/strong>The Seduction of Kansas<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A punk band from Washington DC with today’s governmental leadership is undoubtedly going to have some politically charged lyrics. Priests has absolutely seduced our lovely mid-western state with beautifully blended elements of dance and punk on songs cleverly written to reflect on what exactly comprises the current definition of American identity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.) PUP \u2013 Morbid Stuff <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stefan Babcock, vocalist for the Toronto punk outfit PUP, has a unique ability to carry songs gleefully through negative, nihilistic, and self-depreciating lyrics over booming and cathartic punk melodies. Describing Morbid Stuff <\/em>as either fun or depressing wouldn’t do it justice, and right in the middle of that juxtaposition is exactly where the band thrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
