Despite its members hailing from all the way up in Alaska, Termination Dust’s debut album emerges seamlessly into the young alternative scene, straddling the bounds between dream pop and emo. Much of the album was recorded long-distance after two members relocated to Minnesota, making the final product all the more impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next chapter of of Montreal lead Kevin Barnes\u2019 musical autobiography, UR FUN<\/em>, describes the \u201cstaying in love\u201d portion of his romance with Christina Schneider. At times cheesy, but always full of heart, UR FUN<\/em> layers emotionally complex lyrics over upbeat melodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.) Fern Mayo – Week of Charm<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kate Capri of Fern Mayo “wants to help you see in the dark” in this record. The tracks of Week of Charm<\/em> are a bit disorienting, ethereal and dreamy. Over this backdrop, Capri confronts herself and the choices she has made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.) Field Music – Making a New World<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This 19-track record is a poignant analysis of the after-effects of World War I, how the entire world had to learn to rebuild itself and heal. It’s not an album about the war but rather about the art, science, and social changes that it brought about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.) glass beach – the first glass beach album<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When glass beach set out to create their first album, they went in hard: each song was recorded and re-recorded, experimentally, until the album reached its chaotic, spectacular final form. glass beach sits in a sweet spot somewhere between the absurdity of Animal Collective and 100 gecs and the refined post-emo sounds of groups like American Pleasure Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
