Hunting for the perfect movie to watch on a cold evening? Well, have I got a list for you! Each film, carefully curated, includes a recommended song related to the film. At the bottom, you can find a link to a Spotify playlist that includes all 31 songs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Disclaimer: I include far too much Tim Burton in this list for anyone\u2019s own good. However (and I stand by this statement), Burton may well be the king of spooksville. Enjoy.<\/span><b><\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The<\/strong><b> Nightmare Before Christmas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 A family-friendly favorite, this Tim Burton film has always been my favorite way to begin October. It\u2019s a little spooky, a little sweet and a whole lot of fun. My song pairing is \u201cSkeletons\u201d by Of Monsters and Men.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Frankenweenie <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 There\u2019s always the debate; 1984, or 2012?\u00a0 As both films are Tim Burton masterpieces, it\u2019s up to you. Pick your spooky poison, or watch both! My song pairing is \u201cMe &amp; My Dog\u201d from the Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus collective, Boygenius.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The Mask<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Not everyone loves Jim Carrey, but this movie makes up a part of my childhood. My song pairing is \u201cThe Mask\u201d by Matt Maeson (Explicit warning).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>James and the Giant Peach <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 What\u2019s not to like about sailing away to a mysterious city in a gargantuan fruit? More Tim Burton, but I\u2019m not sorry. My song pairing is \u201cPeaches\u201d by The Presidents of the United States of America.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Monster House<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 I felt bad for the pizza guy. I had the GameCube game. That\u2019s all you really need to do. Oh, and GET OFF MY LAWN! My song pairing is \u201cHaunted House\u201d by Florence + The Machine<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>Mom\u2019s Got a Date With a Vampire<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Most movies made in 2000 ended up rating terribly and scoring low in the box office. Although it was a Disney Channel original, this film was no exception. That being said, some films are obligatory because they\u2019re bad. My song pairing is \u201cI Wish I Had Fangs and a Tail\u201d by The Magnetic Fields (Yes, I know vampires don\u2019t have tails).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Corpse Bride <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Everyone\u2019s favorite (okay, I\u2019m biased) spooky trio is in on the fun: Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, and\u2026 oh no, Tim Burton? My song pairing is \u201cDeath With Dignity\u201d by Sufjan Stevens.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Pirates of the Caribbean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Not everyone will agree with these films being October-worthy. I believe that midnight seafaring against Davy Jones and Blackbeard\u2019s skeleton boys is pretty darn spookalicious. My song pairing is \u201cRye Whiskey\u201d by The Pirates Charles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Remember when they didn\u2019t have magic? Man, remember when Selena Gomez was on Disney Channel? My song pairing is \u201cMagic\u201d by Pilot.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Children of the Corn<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Ah, yes. Real horror. This is for all of you who don\u2019t fancy sleeping well at night. My song pairing is \u201cCandy Corn\u201d by Jon Hyde.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Cabin in the Woods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Think about the Scooby gang, but Scooby isn\u2019t there, and they all go on a trip to the mountains. And then the Apocalypse. My song pairing is \u201cIt\u2019s The End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)\u201d by R.E.M.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Donnie Darko <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Remember what I said about 2000s movies? Well, 2001 somehow got it right. If you like big bunny rabbits, this is your film. My song pairing is \u201cRed Rabbits\u201d by The Shins.<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>Alice in Wonderland<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Look, there are so many versions of this story, and I love them all. (Yes, especially the Tim Burton one.) You can watch any of them and be satisfied with this slightly off-kilter fantasy world. My song pairing is \u201cAll The Girls Love Alice\u201d by Elton John.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Hocus Pocus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 This one is such a classic now,\u00a0 I don\u2019t think I have to explain. My song pairing is \u201cHaunt You\u201d by Nancy Nightmare and the Wizard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Before I Wake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 For those of you who like an emotional movie, this one always gets me. A couple adopts a little boy whose dreams become reality. My song pairing is \u201cIt\u2019s Ok\u201d by Tom Rosenthal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Coco <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 Another family movie that makes everyone feel good, \u201cCoco\u201d is a great way to spend an evening so grab your popcorn and a guitar. My song pairing is \u201cHello My Old Hear\u201d by The Oh Hellos.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Don\u2019t Look Under the Bed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 This one surprised me, and some call it the scariest Disney Channel original ever released. I wouldn\u2019t advise watching this with young children. My song pairing is \u201cMonster Mash\u201d by Bobby Pickett (This had to make the list at some point.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>V for Vendetta<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Why is this on the list? Because not everyone likes Halloween. So here you go, one of the greatest films I\u2019ve ever seen. My song pairing is \u201cbellyache\u201d by Billie Eilish<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>Dismissed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Remember Dylan Sprouse? Well, he is the star in this unsettling psychological thriller. Just don\u2019t follow in his footsteps. Threatening your teachers for A\u2019s is ill-advised. My song pairing is \u201cWay Down We Go\u201d by KALEO<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>The Ninth Gate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 It might be the worst movie I\u2019ve ever seen. Turn it on, laugh at how bad it is, and sleep soundly. My song pairing is \u201cGreat American Novel\u201d by Max Jury.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Texas Chainsaw<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Not for the weak-stomached, this slasher film makes even Quentin Tarantino hide in disgust. Don\u2019t eat while watching. My song pairing is \u201cAutomatic Flowers\u201d by Our Lady Peace<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>Goosebumps<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 I still can\u2019t get over how genius Jack Black is as R.L. Stine. This comedic take on some of my favorite childhood books never fails to make me smile. My song pairing is \u201cLove and Hunger\u201d by Graveyard Lovers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Pet Sematary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Do not resurrect the dead. I repeat, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">do not resurrect the dead<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! It\u2019s not a good idea. My song pairing is \u201cLavender Moon\u201d by Haroula Rose.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The Hug<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Don\u2019t have time but still want spooks? This Five Nights At Freddy\u2019s-esque short film will convince you to never visit another Chuck E. Cheese again. My song pairing is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go Away!<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Super Simple Songs. (Hahaha.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>It<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Everybody\u2019s favorite clown! Whether you prefer the original or the reinterpretation, \u201cIt\u201d remains as a staple on my Spooktober shelf. My song pairing is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clownin Around<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by Deer Tick<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>A Quiet Place<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Did you know this movie was edited on mute for a month? I was lucky to see it in theatres, and boy, silence truly is golden in the magic of filmmaking. My song pairing is <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sound of Silence\u201d by Disturbed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Casper<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 This sweet \u201890s flick is one that I watch with my siblings every year. It\u2019s fun, it\u2019s cute and\u2026 is that Wednesday Addams? My song pairing is \u201cGhost\u201d by Run River North.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>1984<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 It\u2019s too genius not to watch. \u201c1984\u201d, filmed in 1984, is frightening because it\u2019s almost future telling. George Orwell knew. He knew! My song pairing is \u201c1984-2016\u201d by David Bowie, may he rest in peace.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Sleepy Hollow<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 If anyone asks, \u201cSleepy Hollow\u201d is my favorite spooky film. Between the Gothic visions of autumn and Johnny Depp\u2019s puppy-dog act, I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a better Tim Burton film out there. Christopher Walken even makes an appearance. My song pairing is \u201cGraveyard\u201d by Feist.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>The Addams Family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 Duh duh duh duh! <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snap snap.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Duh duh duh duh! <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snap snap.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Duh duh duh duh! Duh duh duh duh! Duh duh duh duh! <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Snap snap.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> My song pairing is \u201cPale Shelter\u201d by Tears for Fears.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Halloweentown<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 And, for the night we\u2019ve all been waiting for! I can\u2019t picture Halloween without a movie that has \u201cHalloween\u201d in the title.
