They don’t need these physical additions to culminate the cool-girl vibe they exude, although they do make things just that much more aesthetically pleasing. The main difference between other cool girls and Coco & Clair Clair though is that they don’t keep their party restrained within the boundaries of a velvet rope around their table – they let their energy flow out to every corner of the room.

The opener for this show, Canadian rapper SadBoi, could not have set a more perfect tone for how the night would go. With an energetic introduction from her DJ, SadBoi strutted onto the stage in a long fur coat and commanded the stage like she was the headliner. I wasn’t familiar with her music, but SadBoi’s set was so fun and sexy, she even threw fake $100 bills into the crowd with her face on them. SadBoi knows she’s that girl, and she left stage having all of us feeling like we were that girl too.

Before Coco & Clair Clair took the stage, their DJ, Raven Artson, played a short set that amped us all up so that we could give Coco & ClairClair the energy they deserved. The highlight of this DJ set for me was definitely when he mixed “B2b” by Charli xcx into “Immaterial” by SOPHIE. After Raven played “Our House,” Coco & Clair Clair entered the stage in a cool transition of their music being played by a DJ into them singing it themselves.

Coco & Clair Clair’s music could be described as an elevated combination of bedroom pop and rap. The energy and expensiveness of their aesthetic mixed with the bedroom elements of their sound culminated such a unique vibe throughout the concert that made me feel like I was in a VIP club and a house party at the same time. The chemistry these two share is undeniable, with giggles, funny comments, shots and spontaneous a cappella moments happening during every break between songs. We laughed along with them in the crowd, and their smiles to our reactions only added to the humility of the two.

One of my favorite parts of the concert was Clair randomly screaming into the microphone at the end of some of her verses. If there was even a hint that the energy in the room was dipping, her screams didn’t just maintain it, but elevated the crowd’s spirit above what it was before.

“Kate Spade,” one of the single’s from their latest album “Girl” was not just performed during the regular set, but the two came out to perform it again during the encore. I didn’t think hearing that song live could get better after the first time, but Coco & Clair Clair delivered their loudest and most energetic performance of the night with the encore performance of this song. “Smokin’ on the latest shit/Kate Spade, all the hits” we yelled with Coco as the bass vibrated in our chests.

“It’s kinda hard not making bangers not gonna lie” said Cocco between songs, which so perfectly emulates how effortless the art and presence of these two comes across as they performed bangers back to back to back throughout the night. I truly believe that Coco & Clair Clair would have to try so hard to make a song that wouldn’t have a crowd moving like it did at this show.

If you have the chance to see Coco & Clair Clair I could not recommend it more. Their show was the pregame, the party and the after all in one, and there’s very few artists who walk the line between cool and welcoming as well as these two do.

Written by Gabe Carter | Cover collage by Betsey Lewis Coco & Clair Clair are the girls in the corner booth at a club sipping martinis in their fur coats and sunglasses.
