\n<\/a>This past Final Fridays, KJHK\u2019s own Emily Scholle (aka DJ Modrey\u00a0Hepburn of Vintage Vinyl), invited Ad Astra Radio to the grand opening\u00a0of Start Struck Clothing. \u00a0Scholle fittingly spun from her collection\u00a0of antique and essential albums, sending guests back to retro times.\u00a0Also entertaining were Lawrence Burlesque group, Foxy by Proxy, and a\u00a0rather impressive amateur juggler\/magician.<\/p>\nThe apparel and accessories offered at Star Struck are not vintage,\u00a0but rather throwback styled, modern designs by shop owner Leslie\u00a0Grother, Bettie Page, Lux de Ville, and more. \u00a0Grother only began\u00a0designing four years ago, but has an undeniable knack for it. \u00a0Prior\u00a0to opening her exclusive Lawrence boutique in December, Grother\u2019s\u00a0fashions were found hanging on the racks of Retro Vixen, in Kansas\u00a0City.<\/p>\n
Grother, a computer programmer, who has lived in Lawrence for the past\u00a015 years says, \u00a0\u201cWe boot strapped the business\u2026 paid for everything in\u00a0cash.\u201d \u00a0Grother\u2019s husband and daughter both played key roles in\u00a0opening Star Struck. \u00a0Mr. Grother built all the shelving for the\u00a0store, and the very first dress Leslie ever designed was for her\u00a0daughter.<\/p>\n
The recreations, reinterpreted and available at Star Struck, are a\u00a0testament to the ethos of the 40s, 50s and 60s, and how this era
