{"id":8346,"date":"2012-02-05T01:23:46","date_gmt":"2012-02-05T07:23:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/?p=8346"},"modified":"2012-02-05T01:29:40","modified_gmt":"2012-02-05T07:29:40","slug":"kansas-falls-to-missouri-74-71","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/2012\/02\/05\/kansas-falls-to-missouri-74-71\/","title":{"rendered":"Kansas falls to Missouri 74-71"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/mizzouarena2.4.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8349\" title=\"mizzouarena2.4\" src=\"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/mizzouarena2.4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/mizzouarena2.4.jpg 640w, https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/mizzouarena2.4-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Kansas Jayhawks blew an eight point lead and fell 74-71 in Columbia<!--more--><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Blake Schuster<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>Columbia, MO. \u2014 And with a three-point bucket from Tyshawn Taylor the end began.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On 265 previous occasions the heavyweights known as the Missouri and Kansas squared off, and this \u2014 like every time before\u00a0 \u2014 wouldn\u2019t end until one fighter was left screaming in victory and the other tolerating an insufferable defeat.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Saturday night it was Missouri that walked off the court in jubilation, beating the Jayhawks 74-71, and \u2014 as Don Fambrough argued \u2014 it was a war, one that Thomas Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor led, and Marcus Denmon, Kim English, and Michael Dixon staved off.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As if the rumpus crowd at Mizzou Arena were silent, Taylor took control on offense early \u2014 knocking down three of four from the field \u2014 to give Kansas a 15-14 lead with just under 12 minutes left in the first half.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Taylor would end the first half seven for 12 from the field and with 17 points \u2014 No other Kansas player had more than six, and for that reason the Jayhawks were down 39-34 facing their last 20 minutes in Columbia.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cTyshawn is damn good,\u201d Kansas coach Bill Self said after the game,\u00a0 \u201cHe played so well the first half and kept us in the game.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And while the first half belonged to Taylor, the second came down to Thomas Robinson, mainly because any offense from that point had to go through him.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>After only taking five shots in the first 20 minutes \u2014 making three of them \u2014 Robinson commanded the ball and jacked up 12 more the rest of the way, giving him 25 points to accompany his 13 rebounds.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>With the clock winding down it looked all but over for the Tigers who were trailing 71-63 with 2:28 left, and it looked like Robinson was just too much for the undersized Missouri squad.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>So when Marcus Denmon missed a three-pointer and Robinson streaked up the court with the ball it seemed as though the dagger had been raised and ready to slice through the years of hatred between the two schools.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>But the dagger never came down.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cThomas has a bad possession,\u201d Self said, \u201cWe want to use a little clock and he tries to score too quick.
