{"id":8377,"date":"2012-02-07T15:30:42","date_gmt":"2012-02-07T21:30:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/?p=8377"},"modified":"2012-02-07T15:33:14","modified_gmt":"2012-02-07T21:33:14","slug":"blast-from-the-past","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/2012\/02\/07\/blast-from-the-past\/","title":{"rendered":"Blast from the past"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>The Cars featured on Hi-Ho Classic-O.<!--more--><\/h2>\n<p>As college kids, whether we like it or not, our love for the Classics comes from our parents.\u00a0 We didn\u2019t live in those time periods, our Dads and, if you\u2019re lucky enough to have a cool mom, Moms did.\u00a0 Without them, we wouldn\u2019t have been lucky enough to be introduced to the greats like the Beatles, Eric Clapton, the Doobie Brothers, the Stones, etc.<\/p>\n<p>A great classic rock band that some might not see as \u201cone of the greats\u201d is The Cars.\u00a0 You have probably heard their singles \u201cGood Times Roll,\u201d \u201cBest Friend\u2019s Girl,\u201d or <a title=\"Shake it up\" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/ZD1VKanLO3I\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cShake it up\u201d<\/a> from commercials on T.V.<\/p>\n<p>The Cars consist of lead singer and rhythm guitarist Ric Ocasek, lead singer and bassist Benjamin Orr, guitarist Elliot Easton, keyboardist Greg Hawkes and drummer David Robinson.\u00a0 The bands originated in Boston, MA and were signed to Elektra Records by George Daly, then A&amp;R head, in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>The Cars released their debut album, <em>The Cars<\/em>, in 1978 and reached the #18 spot on the Billboard 200.\u00a0 <a title=\"My Best Friend's \" href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/XkSmLh2Hbi0\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cMy Best Friend\u2019s Girlfriend\u201d<\/a> and \u201cGood Times Roll\u201d charted the Billboard Hot 100.\u00a0 They released their second album, <em>Candy-O<\/em>, in 1979.\u00a0 Some of its hits were Let\u2019s Go,\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s All I Can Do\u201d and \u201cDangerous Type.\u201d\u00a0 Their \u201cmost experimental album\u201d <em>Panorama<\/em>, was released in 1980 with the hit, \u201cTouch and Go,\u201d which charted the Top 40.\u00a0 They recorded the next album, <em>Shake It Up<\/em>, in 1981.<\/p>\n<p>The most successful album, <em>Heartbeat City<\/em>, released in 1984 and won MTV Video of the Year for \u201cYou Might Think.\u201d\u00a0 Other hit singles from the album included \u201cMagic,\u201d \u201cHello Again,\u201d and \u201cWhy Can\u2019t I Have You,\u201d and The Cars\u2019 most successful single was \u201cDrive.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cMovin\u2019 in Stereo\u201d also appeared in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.<\/p>\n<p>Lead singer Ric Ocasek and keyboardist Greg Hawkes also released solo albums, <em>Beatitude <\/em>and <em>Niagra Falls<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Cars are worthy to check out.\u00a0 Each hit is unique.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>by maegan mathiasmeier<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>tune in to hi-ho classic-o every wednesday night from 9 to 10 p.m.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cars featured on Hi-Ho Classic-O.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4332,"featured_media":8606,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-8377","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-music"],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/thecars-cd.jpg","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8377","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/4332"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=8377"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/8377\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/8606"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=8377"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=8377"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kjhk.org\/web\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=8377"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
