Every time we write a new song, it always changes. Definitely within the psychedelic garage rock type of vibe.

Mitchell: A little bit of shoegaze influence, but yeah, mostly garage.

Do you have a favorite song you’ve made? Any that you’re excited to play at Farmer’s Ball?

Jake: For me, “White Lie.” It’s probably the favorite that we’ve written together.

Caleb: We’ve got a lot of new ones that are coming out.

Brad: “Teach the Killer” is probably my favorite, that was a fun one.

Mitchell: “Helpline Direct” for me.

Who are your biggest musical inspirations?

Brad: I’m always most influenced by what I’m listening to at the time.

Caleb: I think what makes our sound so eclectic is that we all have really different musical influences that we bring to the table.

Jake: We do have a lot of inspirations that we share. I’d say Ty Siegel is a big one, that’s a huge inspiration for me. Anything like Thee Ohsees, like garage rock and psych rock–that kind of genre.

Mitchell: At least for Brad, Lucas, and I, we are all very big fans of Queens of the Stone Age. I know Lucas really likes The Kings.

What motivates you to make music?

Brad: You just wake up and gotta do it, I don’t know.

Caleb: It’s a way of communicating with each other when we play. It just beats normal talking.

Jake: It’s therapeutic and fun, and free booze, sometimes.

Mitchell: Musicians just got make music in the same way that regular people just got to breathe. It’s just a mandatory thing. You have to create or else you don’t have an outlet for your emotions and thoughts.

If you win Farmer’s Ball, how will you celebrate?

Mitchell: It would be nice to have our album all paid off at that point. We’d be super pumped for that. Then we’d have some leftover for fresh merch and just keep the wheels turning on the bus.

Caleb: It’d be cool to have an afterparty at Lucas’, probably have a bunch of musicians over.

The Sounds of Many is one of the eight acts battling for one of the four spots in the Farmer’s Ball Finals!
