First of all, can I just say what a cool name this guy has? If my god-given birth name was Greek God + Diamond, I would be the most obnoxious person on Earth.

Artemas initially went viral on social media after his release of “if u think i’m pretty” in 2023. In 2024, his single, “i like the way you kiss me,” went super duper viral, reaching number one in five countries and charting in 10 total.

I remember back when I couldn’t scroll more than six TikToks without hearing “if u think Iim pretty.” I downloaded it so fast when I first heard it and definitely had a phase where it was all I would listen to.

As for the concert itself, to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I’m not going to lie, I went into the show pretty blind. I was familiar with “if u think i’m pretty,” but besides that, I essentially knew nothing about what I was stepping into. If I’m asked, “Do you want to come to a concert with me?” My answer will always be some variation of “Yes,” “Oh my god,” and “That sounds so awesome.” Does this blow up in my face on occasion? Maybe, but thank goodness this wasn’t one of those times.

Our first surprise of the night was the opener to the opener. DJ Jean Pierre La Croix strutted onto stage with a DJ deck and a dream. While I question the validity of his French nationality, La Croix was the perfect way to open the show. A concert is only as good as its crowd, and Kansas City definitely brought the energy after a little encouragement from La Croix’s excellent French personality and inspired beats. He came, he served French, and he left. For not even being an official part of the lineup, he was one of my favorite parts of the night.

The official opening act, Henry Morris, came on shortly after La Croix’s set. In my personal opinion, would I listen to him in my free time? Maybe not, but that says less about his music and more about my own music taste. Imagine if the essence of Lana Del Rey and The Neighborhood merged into a boy from California. That’s the vibe, heavy on The Neighborhood side of the merge. While I may not have been the biggest fan of the music itself, it was certainly a good performance.

Moving on to the main act of the show: Artemas. Going into the show, I knew about two songs, and in full transparency, I knew about two songs going into the show and his general vibe, but the performance was a fun combination of catchy, edgy, and smooth vibes. Artemas is a stellar performer, and the energy was there the second he came on stage. People were moving and cheering, and Artemas took that energy and gave it right back to ’em. The stage was utilized throughout the whole show, with the guitarist moving to the front when it was his time to shine and overall killing it the entire show.

I always feel a little bit of pressure being a part of a crowd because I want the artist to enjoy the performance as much as I do, and from what I was seeing, Artemas was having a blast up on the stage. He brought a killer energy to the stage, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the crowd.

It would be wrong of me not to give credit where credit is due when it comes to the lighting design from the Uptown Theater. I do not know who was on light aux that night, but can someone give them a raise? After having been to countless concerts, I’ve learned that good lighting can take a good show to a great one. The lighting was the perfect compliment to Artemas’s sound. From the colors to the cues, to say the work was impeccable would be an understatement.

Overall, I had a pretty good time. If you can go into a concert blind and come out and say, “Wow, that was a great time,” that’s how you know an artist is a good performer. I enjoyed it, Payton enjoyed it, and I know the crowd enjoyed it. I went home with McDonald’s in my tummy, another concert under my belt, and some fun memories. 10/10, would do again.

I had the opportunity to see Artemas at Uptown Theater on Sept. 24 in Kansas City, Missouri, with our wonderful communications director, Payton Butler, and what a delightful and enjoyable time we had!
