Pronounced as “howdy,” Hovvdy is an indie pop duo that’s soft and textured like your favorite blanket you’ve had since you were a child, and on Oct. 9, this duo is coming to The Bottleneck. Hovvdy’s members, Charlie Martin and Will Taylor, formed the band in 2014 in Austin, Texas, and have been steadily gaining popularity since. Their music features soothing acoustic guitar and piano, paired with soft and groovy accompaniment that showcases the duo’s background in drums.

My close friend Zach introduced them to me last year. He’s probably one of the happiest people I know, and I think that’s quite fitting for this band. Their feel-good music is rich with warmth and positivity; it’s almost impossible to be sad when listening to Hovvdy. It’s music for going to the park on a warm spring day with a hammock and a friend who you know has your back. If you like MJ Lendermann, Slow Pulp, or Pinegrove, you’ll love Hovvdy as much as I do.

Their recent album, “Big World,” was released on Aug. 14 and expands their sound to beautiful new heights. It’s got jazzy, soft-style songs and upbeat songs for dancing in your room. The lyricism is down-to-earth, describing the simple pleasures of life and the hardships that push us to grow. “Blast” is track five and a personal favorite of mine. It’s introspective and pushes a hopeful perspective on the uncertainties of life, and the drums are sure to make you dance.

Hovvdy’s concert is sure to have good vibes and a friendly crowd. Tickets can be purchased now!

Hovvdy will be coming to The Bottleneck on Oct. 9 with opener Emma Ogier.
