As a messed up relationship unfolds, driven by electronic pulsation, the urge to intervene lessens as FKA Twigs makes you crave more. FKA Twigs serves as a stage name for Gloucestershire, England native Tahliah Debrett Barnett.
M3LL155X is her latest EP following her first
album, LP1, which garnered international acclaim. Twigs blends together pop, R&B and electronica elements and glazes them with a siren-esque set of vocals. Twigs is currently in a relationship with actor Robert Pattinson. Without getting too close to TMZ reporting there is a large degree of allusion about her relationship experience in the EP.
M3LL155X contains a song titled “I’m Your Doll” and lyrics that include, “If you can resist it/ And make a commitment/ And stay with me in this” in “In Time”. These two songs resonate through you. Twigs is continually altering this niche sound. It is screwed up beauty. The vocals are reminiscent of Florence Welch, but maintain their own emotion driven individuality. The beats are an assortment of chimes, bells and claps with definite R&B/Hip Hop origins. The combination of the two leads to a cerebrally stimulating experience. It took a run-through or two to digest, but I highly recommend listening to this next step in the musical experiment that is FKA Twigs in its entirety.
