Readings by English Professor Joe Harrington and MFA student Sara Leavens. Also, a special preview of this year’s Student Senate candidates.
Has it been a month already? It seems like March just passed us by in a haze of freezing temperatures, inaptly-titled spring breaks, and binge writing in advance of thesis deadlines. But we still got ourselves together in time to record another episode of Sunflower Reading series, featuring poetry, fiction, transgenre work, and a special Ad Astra Radio crossover in advance of Student Senate elections.

Sara Leavens
Fall-semester Sunflower Reading Series cohost Sara Leavens was featured in the English Department’s Graduate Reading Series for April. She shared a few poems as well as part of a story she just got published in Midwestern Gothic. Sara read alongside Jen Colatosti, Josh Canipe, and Justin Zaruba.
Joe Harrington
KU English Professor Joe Harrington is writer who dabbles among and between genres, producing poetry, prose and variations of things that are both and neither of those. He’s one of the curators of the Big Tent Reading Series at the Raven and – this month – a reader as well. Joe read a variety of short pieces, including excerpts from his book Things Come On.
Student Senate Candidates
Admittedly not a reading, Ad Astra Radio reporter Beth Fentress makes a guest appearance with this series of interviews in advance of the KU Student Senate elections. Each coalition’s presidential and vice-presidential candidates came in to share some of their platform with our listeners.
Written by Scott Ross. Tune into Sunflower Reading Series the first Thursday of every month at 7pm on KJHK 90.7fm.
