Deer Tick is back with an eclectic mix of folk and alt-country sounds
Deer Tick – Negativity
Negativity is Deer Tick’s fifth studio album. These guys are not newcomers to writing and recording music. This album contains indie rock, folk and alternative country elements. The vocals are raw and distinct resembling Leon Russell at times. The album has a variety of songs from the piano ballad “Hey Doll” to the ambitious opening track “The Rock” to the heavy grunge-esque “Pot of Gold”. This doesn’t make the album very consistent but keeps the listener intrigued. The album does have an air of darkness and depth to it that is noticeable after the 2nd or 3rd listen. The track “The Dream’s in the Ditch” is the single and probably the highlight of the album but Do Not Play it. This album wouldn’t be terribly impressive to a new listener but longtime fans will really enjoy it.
