Howdy folks, DJ Quinton McPanda here. I have been given the distinct privilege of hosting Plow The Fields this spring, and that means blogging, apparently. Not something I’m particularly proficient with, but I’m not one to shy away from a challenge.
At the moment, I’m sitting at my computer listening to the interview I did with Schwervon! last Saturday. The station has been kind enough to let me start posting interviews online, so if you missed my chat with Nan Turner and Matt Mason, we’ll have it up for you to listen to shortly. We had a great conversation about their roots in the NYC Anti-Folk scene, playing with the likes of Daniel Johnston, The Moldy Peaches/Kimya Dawson, Jeff Lewis, Regina Spektor, and The Purple Organ. We also discussed home recording, touring Europe, Lawrence eateries (and strip clubs), fanny packs full of glitter, and learning to tap dance from a drag queen named Mr. Tim. Needless to say, we had a lot of fun.
I’ve got several interviews in the pipeline this month, including one with Katlyn Conroy that we recorded a few days ago. You’ll get to hear it on February 14th, as well as a live interview with KC’s Deco Auto. Stay tuned for that and much, much more as I do my best to fill the ginormous shoes I’ve been given. Plow The Fields is a somewhat of a Lawrence institution, and I plan hold myself to the highest of standards during my tenure here. You’ve been warned.
